
Derwent World Patents Index Extends Content Set and Improves Functionality
Enhanced Version Now Available
on Dialog

Thomson Scientific,

community, today announced that Dialog has released
the enhanced version of Derwent World Patents Index® (DWPISM).
DWPI (Files 350, 351, 352 on Dialog), a comprehensive
database of value-added patent information, now features
a more robust content set and improved database functionality.
“The improved DWPI database provides Dialog
patent searchers additional value-added content with
enhanced database performance and stability to make
finding patent information easier than ever.” said
Viji Krishnan, Dialog vice president of publisher
management. “And the new display enhancements
make data in DWPI easier to read when viewed in Dialog
interfaces supporting HTML.”
Enhancements to DWPI include:
- New Content
- New, original patent data, including the
original patent titles and abstracts; original
patent titles are available in multiple languages
- Extra bibliographic data, such as full
inventor names and associated addresses, patent
assignee addresses and patent agent information
- 750,000 documentation abstracts in text-searchable
format available for the first time; original
abstracts are available in multiple languages
- Multiple drawing and chemical structure
images display, in addition to a representative
drawing, in-line with the relevant text
- Improved Indexing
- International Patent Classification Reform
(version 8)
- Original US classification assigned by
the USPTO available in DWPI for the first
time
- New Basic Index and Limit qualifiers streamline
searching
- Better Display Options
- Data presented in table format, such as
patent families and patent filing details can be
easily cut and pasted into spreadsheet and word
processing software.
- New predefined formats and display codes
permit viewing just the data of interest
- Data displays in HTML format in DialogLink
5 and Web interfaces
- Text sizes automatically adjust to size
of window and special characters, such as superscripts
and subscripts, are supported
The improved DWPI database also accommodates
the requirements of the International Patent Classification
(IPC) version 8, which entered into force January
