New EMCare Database on Dialog and DataStar Offers Timely Information to Healthcare Professionals

Cary, NC USA, London UK (August 31, 2006)

Dialog, a Thomson business, today announced that it has enhanced its portfolio of healthcare information with the addition of EMCare, a new nursing and allied health database.

Dialog follows DataStar as the second Thomson platform to offer the EMCare database. EMCare is produced by Elsevier and provides access to scientific and professional literature that is directly relevant to the development of more cost-effective and higher quality healthcare in a wide variety of arenas: from hospitals and educational settings through academic and research-oriented facilities.

"Timely, accurate and reliable information is vital for delivering high-quality healthcare. For that reason, we are pleased to be able to offer the new EMCare database through both our DataStar and Dialog services," said Viji Krishnan, Dialog vice president, publisher management. "Information professionals in the healthcare industry, nurses of all specialties and allied health professionals will find the new EMCare database a valuable resource for researching the latest and best treatments for their patients."

With more than 2,700 international source titles, EMCare includes unique content not found in any other nursing and allied health database. It features a 10-year backfile, and more than 200,000 new records will be added to the database each year.

With regard to scope, EMCare provides in-depth and geographically diverse coverage of every aspect of the healthcare profession, including but not limited to:

  • Biomedicine
  • Clinical, medical and healthcare social work
  • Emergency services
  • Evidence-based healthcare
  • Midwifery
  • Nursing development and management
  • Nursing education and training
  • Nursing specialties including coronary care, HIV/AIDS, hospice and palliative care, neonatal nursing and many others
  • Physical therapy
  • Psychiatry and mental health
  • Surgical technology
  • Traumatology, emergency and critical care medicine

EMCare contains nearly 2 million records indexed with EMTREE, Elsevier's Life Science Thesaurus, which has been expanded with close to 1,500 nursing and allied health terms in addition to existing biomedical terms. The enhanced thesaurus allows for precise and relevant search results.
