Dialog Program Supports Unemployed Librarians

Dialog® access and discount help with job search and new business start-up

Morrisville, NC (October 7, 2009)

Dialog, a leader in online information services for professional searchers, is coming to the aid of those information professionals who have lost their jobs in the economic downturn.  The company is waiving standard Dialog start-up and service fees, offering free Dialindex and throwing in a 10% discount on Dialog usage to librarians and information professionals who have recently been laid off.  The aim of the program is to help these professionals use Dialog's powerful resources do their job search, retain and develop their search skills and even do some independent consulting while they look for full employment.  Free access and discounts can be used for up to 12 months.

"For many of these librarians, losing their job means losing their Dialog access, too," said Suzanne BeDell, Dialog General Manager. "We want to be sure we're there for them when they need us most — when they need excellent resources to look for a new position, or if they're aiming to start their own information business."

The new program is modeled after a partnership Dialog has with the Association of Independent Information Professionals (AIIP).  AIIP members enjoy the same Dialog access and discount features proposed in the new program for unemployed librarians for as long they're members.   "We hope that Dialog's offer will inspire more information professionals to get a feel for running their own information consulting business, and that some may become AIIP members in the future," said Marcy Phelps, AIIP 2009-2010 President.

Librarians and information professionals who have become unemployed since September 2008 are eligible.  Visit www.dialog.com/careers/program_uip/ to apply for the new program.
